26. Approved the second reading of new Board Policy No. 4400, Title: School District Policy for Management of Individually Identifiable Health Information (HIPAA).

Dr. Zehner reported on the following items:
1. Across the district, staff members are participating in Learning Focused Schools inservice days. The teachers are refining instructional materials and lesson plans by including effective research-based teaching strategies.
2. Based on the performance of students who have participated in the enriched math program at Annville Elementary, a section of 7th grade students will be taking an Algebra course next year.
3. There is a continued focus on reading at the elementary level. DIBELS testing was completed on all K-3 students at the end of May. Results will be shared with the Board at the August meeting.
4. The 2003 Envirothon had 26 team entered from across Lebanon County. Of the 26 teams, Annville Elementary had four of the top six places, and all five teams finished n the top half of the competition. The Fab Fuels Team
won first place with a score of 136 points. Jennifer Funck of Annville Elementary School also had the highest
individual score among all the participants in this year's envirothon. Coaching for the teams was conducted both before and after school by Mrs. Bonnie Hill and Mr. Brian Eckhart.
5. During the 4th marking period, 335 students in grades K-6 achieved perfect attendance. In addition, 49 students
in grades K-6 achieved perfect attendance for the entire 2002-03 school year.
6. Mr. Thomas Ritter, physics teacher, and his eighth grade students designed a physics lab comparing the theoretical vs. actual buoyancy of a helium balloon. Mr. Ritter submitted an article describing the lab and its results to Physics Teacher Magazine. The article was titled "The Baker Street Irregulars Meet Archimedes."
7. The annual IU/Employer luncheon was held to honor Lebanon County high school seniors who participated in
the job training program and to thank the many businesses that opened their doors to students with disabilities.
During the 2002-03 school year, three A-C seniors participated in the program.
8. The special education computer program the district uses for tracking, writing reports, and developing IEPs is
moving to an on-line system. Mrs. Setlock recently traveled to Denver, Colorado to preview the new system,
train in its use, and discuss implementation time lines.
9. Several 8th grade Family & Consumer Science students made 600 pounds of peanut butter balls and donated
them to the Good Samaritan Hospital Street Fair. The street fair helps raise money for the hospital.
