Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!

On behalf of the Annville Elementary faculty and staff I would like to welcome everyone back for the 2014-2015 school year.  A special welcome to our new students and their families!  I'm confident you will find our school to be a welcoming and supportive educational environment for your child(ren).

Last school year brought many changes to Annville Elementary.  This year, our focus is on implementing changes that were in the planning stages and strengthening those that were put into place last year.

Our reading curriculum is moving into the second year of implementation and third for mathematics.  Annville Elementary and the Annville-Cleona School District are working hard to prepare our students for the increased standards of common core.  However, our overarching focus continues to be to develop the diverse talents, abilities, and values of our students to be successful, contributing and responsible citizens.

Throughout last school year a committee comprised of administration, teachers, guidance, school psychologist and support staff created our Dutchmen Way school wide positive behavior support program.  With the essential pieces now created we will begin direct instruction of behavioral expectations, reteach when students require increased support, reward and reinforce positive student behavior and work closely with parents when these supports are not effective.

Similarly, a committee created the framework for our Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) program.  This systematic approach to identifying student weaknesses and strengths, and then providing instruction to fill those needs at varying levels, is aimed at filling gaps in student learning and increasing intervention according to statistical need; ultimately improving student growth.  Communication between the classroom and home is a critical component of RtII as we team with parents to concretely understand each child's needs.

Information about our Dutchmen Way and RtII programs will be added to our website within our student/parent handbook.  Additional information will also be shared during Open House on Monday, September 8th.

A fresh look and some school spirit will be added to the office and hallways of AE with new coats of paint and the A-C crest predominantly posted on each interior hallway wall.

Finally, Annville Elementary and the Annville-Cleona School District continue to upgrade security for our students.  When entering the building parents and the community will be greeted within the main lobby at our office window by our secretaries.  This is due to the addition of security doors that will add a layer of safety for our students and staff.

In order for a child to receive the best possible educational experience, the child, parent(s) and school must all be pulling in the same direction.  We look forward to working with you in this capacity in order to make your child's time at Annville Elementary a strong foundation to build upon for the future!

Have a wonderful school year!
