Welcome Message

Mission Statement:  At Annville Elementary we believe that our school community has a right to an environment that is:

    • safe, both physically and emotionally
    • reflective and inclusive of individual differences
    • respectful of thoughts and opinions
    • academically rigorous
    • collaborative with all stakeholders

    Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  A special welcome to our new students and their families.  We look forward to getting to know each of you throughout the year.

Above you will see our new Annville Elementary mission statement.  This mission statement will appear in several places during the upcoming school year and beyond.  As we go about our daily work, we will strive to meet our mission.  A child’s education must be a collaborative effort and we look forward to working with you towards that endeavor.

Academically, our staff spent time this summer researching and developing ways to continuously improve learning, as well as refine our homework practices, to better serve our students.  Homework will focus on the following areas: 15 minutes of nightly independent reading, 5 minutes of fact fluency practice and completion of any in-class assignments that may not have been finished during the school day.  Students will be able to earn 30 minutes of reward time at the end of each month for accomplishing these tasks on a nightly basis.  More information will be forthcoming via your child’s teacher(s) and can be found on each teacher’s Schoology page once the school year has begun.

This fall will be our first edition of “Parent Scoop Night.”  Possible topics being considered for this informational evening include: school communication streams, math strategies, reading resources, social/emotional and mental health services, social media and your child, understanding the educational system, experiencing a STEAM classroom and several various kiosks of information.  If there is a topic you wish to know more about, please contact us.  More information and an invitation will follow in September.  We hope to see you there!

Behaviorally, we have added curriculum and refined some of our practices to assist our students with “soft skills.”  This curriculum, much like our positive behavior support “Dutchmen Way” program, strives to instill behaviors and attributes in students that foster collaboration skills, help to manage and understand emotions, and create resilience when faced with challenges.  As a PA state recognized positive behavior support school, we are proud of the education we offer to our students in the area of social and emotional learning.

Working together we can make Annville Elementary a rewarding experience for your child!  We look forward to seeing everyone on August 26th for our first day of school and working with you throughout the school year.
