  • Community Update - September 11, 2020

Good afternoon!  First, I would like to take a moment to honor Patriot Day for the loved ones we lost and for the courage, heroism, and resilience Americans displayed on 9/11.

Next, I would like to thank the staff, students, and the community for your understanding and support while we are working through the unexpected and sudden structural damage which closed Annville Elementary School.  Definitely no one could have predicted this occurring on top of working through the COVID pandemic.  The outreach from local churches, facilities, and the community has been amazing!

Our administrative team has been working since the moment we found out about the structural damage at Annville Elementary to make sure engineers are evaluating the building, to get essential resources out for the staff and students, and to explore options for an alternate learning environment for our students.

After a lot of outreach and a few tours to both large and small facilities within 20 minutes, which did not yield desirable results, our recommendation to our School Board is the following:

    • Starting on Monday, September 14, both Annville Elementary (AE) and the High School (HS) students will learn asynchronously from home.
      • Cleona Elementary (CE) and the Middle School (MS) will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.
    • On Tuesday, September 15, AE students will learn synchronously at home.  HS students will learn in-person at the HS as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • CE and the MS will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.
    • On Wednesday, September 16, HS students will learn synchronously at home.  AE students will learn in-person at the HS as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • CE and MS will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.
    • On Thursday, September 17, AE students will learn synchronously at home.  HS students will learn in-person at the HS as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • CE and MS will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.
    • On Friday, September 18, HS students will learn synchronously at home.  AE students will learn in-person at the HS as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • CE and MS will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.
    • Moving forward AE students will learn in-person at the HS on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • AE students will learn synchronously at home on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
    • Moving forward HS students will learn in-person at the HS on Tuesdays and Thursdays as normal, unless they are CARES.
      • HS students will learn synchronously at home on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
    • Moving forward, CE and MS will both report to their respective buildings as normal, unless they are CARES.

This option will help Annville Elementary students, who are some of our youngest learners, to get the necessary in-person instructional time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while still ensuring our High School students have the opportunity to receive in-person instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  More details regarding transportation, how pick up/drop off for Annville Elementary students will occur, and other particulars will come in another update this weekend.

While this certainly is not an ideal situation, our School Board is supportive of this plan.  Annville-Cleona is a strong, tight-knit community and I am proud of this community and our entire team for working together to make the best of this situation.  If you have any questions about this, please reach out to me or any member of our administrative team and we will do our best to answer your questions.
