Community Update 11-20-2020

Community Update - November 20, 2020

Dear Annville-Cleona School District Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Thank you for your continued understanding as we provide information about current COVID-19 cases within the Annville-Cleona School District.  Since information is constantly changing, please carefully read these updates for new and clarifying information.  There are bolded sections in this notification that are pertinent to knowing what is happening in our district.

Yesterday evening we learned that a Middle School student tested positive for COVID-19 after exposure to a positive case outside of school and we were able to contact trace and quarantine the close contacts beginning last night.  Our thoughts go out to this student and his/her family.  This student will not be in school until he/she has isolated and recovered.  Please note that individual health information, including the name of the student who is ill, is confidential to protect their privacy.

We have cleaned and disinfected the school following recommendations from the CDC, we have contacted the Department of Health, and worked to determine if there were any close contacts.  The individuals who were in close contact will be quarantined at home for 14 days from their last exposure so that they can monitor their health and avoid spreading the illness to others.

During the holiday break, as we find out about positive or presumptive positive cases, we will contact trace, notify close contacts, and provide a comprehensive community update prior to returning from break, if there are new cases.  We will continue to review our data to make the best decisions for our students, staff, and community.  At this time, we anticipate being able to keep all of our buildings fully open when we return from this holiday break.

Since Lebanon County is in the substantial designation for community spread of COVID-19, please continue to be mindful of the guidance below.  Remember, our goal is to safely remain open five-days a week and we can only do this with the support and cooperation of our community.

  • The holidays are quickly approaching; gatherings of large groups and travel are not recommended based on the Secretary of Health’s Order on November 17, 2020 (linked here is the full order).  Students who choose to travel outside of the state will be required to provide a negative COVID test or quarantine for 14 days upon return based on this state mandate.
  • Practice physical (or social) distancing and stay at least 6 feet apart from people outside your household.
  • Stay home when you are sick.  If you have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19, stay home and contact your healthcare provider.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue and clean your hands immediately.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
  • Wear a mask or face covering in public spaces, including at school.

For additional questions about COVID-19, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website at health.pa.gov.  If you have any questions or concerns about the information contained in this letter, please feel free to contact me.
