STUDENTS PERFORM AT THE PMEA DISTRICT BAND EVENT
By Abigail Landis
On Saturday, Jan 13, 2024, seven Annville-Cleona students were represented at the District 7 PMEA band concert at Boiling Springs High School. District festivals bring the most musically talented students from varying schools, providing opportunities to enhance their skills.
Students auditioned for the regional band and rehearsed their pieces on Friday. Then, they performed them on Saturday. Dr. Ben Blasko, a graduate of Messiah University, conducted the band and related certain songs to his battle with brain cancer, which emotionally engaged the audience and participants. Between songs, speakers discussed various topics relating to the importance of music concerning cognition and intelligence. Following the performance, two band members, senior Max Liedtka and sophomore Elijah Martin, were selected to perform at the regional concert.
Liedtka said, “This experience was very fun, but also transformative for me as a musician. It was incredible to meet other musicians and develop our skills together. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been able to take part in through PMEA, as they have paved a pathway for me to continue pursuing my passions in music.”
